What a Sulh Officer actually does

The Sulh Officer is not a judge. Their role is to help both sides find common ground, not to decide who is right.

Documents to bring

Any existing court order or agreement	Sets the starting point for the discussion.
Evidence for any claim you plan to raise	Maintenance, property, or custody claims move faster with evidence on hand.

Outcomes to think through beforehand

Decide what you are actually willing to accept before the session starts, not only what you are asking for. Think about your position on child maintenance, iddah maintenance, mut’ah, and property, if these apply to your case.

Also think about your limits. Knowing what you cannot accept is as useful as knowing what you want, since it keeps the discussion realistic.

If you are raising more than one claim

List every claim you want to raise, such as child maintenance, nafkah iddah, mut’ah, or jointly acquired property, so nothing is left out during the session. Our maintenance record template can help if unpaid maintenance is part of your claim.

If the session does not resolve the case

An unsuccessful Sulh does not affect your right to bring the case to a hearing. The case proceeds in the usual way, and you keep the same right to present evidence and call witnesses.
