The 2016 rules that shape your session
Sulh is not set out in Act 303 itself. It runs as a pre-trial mediation session guided by a Sulh Officer, under each state’s own civil procedure rules.[1] Negeri Sembilan’s own Kaedah-Kaedah Tatacara Sulh Mahkamah Syariah (Negeri Sembilan) 2016 sets out how the Majlis Sulh runs, from the moment your case is registered through to its completion.[2]
That written structure gives your session a defined process, guiding how your case is handled at each stage before a full hearing.
Where your session is held
Your Sulh session is held at the District Syariah Court where your case is registered, one of seven across Negeri Sembilan: Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Tampin, Jelebu, Jempol, Port Dickson or Rembau.[3]
It is not a separate mediation centre. The Sulh Officer works from the same court file your case already sits in.
What happens after your session
If both sides agree, the judge can record that agreement directly as a court order without a full hearing. If not, the case proceeds to a hearing at the same district court. You keep your right to present evidence and call witnesses there.
How to prepare
- List the claims you want to raise, such as child maintenance, nafkah iddah, or jointly acquired property.
- Bring supporting documents, such as bank statements, receipts, or an asset list, that back your proposal.
- Decide in advance what you can accept and what you cannot.
- Bring your marriage certificate and any existing order to the session.
