Pengesahan Lafaz Cerai: registering a talaq said outside court

Pengesahan lafaz cerai is the process of bringing a talaq pronounced outside court, for example at home during an argument, to be formally confirmed by the Syariah Court. The talaq must be reported within seven days.^[1]

Many couples do not realise that a talaq said out loud, or sent by WhatsApp or text, still needs court confirmation before it is recognised on record. Without confirmation, marital status stays unclear and can cause problems later.

A late report can lead to a fine or legal action against the husband. Get advice quickly if a talaq has already been said but not yet reported.
