Mut'ah (a consolatory gift when divorced without just cause)

Mut’ah is a consolatory gift from a husband to his wife when the divorce happens without just cause on her part. It is not maintenance, but a form of compensation for the divorce itself.

A common case: a wife divorced by talaq without having done anything wrong, for example because the husband grew tired of the marriage or remarried, can claim mut’ah during or after the divorce case.

There is no fixed formula for the amount; the court weighs the length of the marriage, standard of living, and the facts of the case.
