Talak Bain: a divorce that cannot be revoked

Talak bain is a divorce that ends the marriage bond outright. The husband cannot take his wife back, even during iddah.

This differs from talak raj’i, where the couple can reconcile without a new marriage contract. Talak bain usually happens after the third talaq (bain kubra), or through khuluk (bain sughra), where the wife redeems herself with iwadh.

If both parties want to be together again after talak bain, they need a fresh marriage contract, not a simple reconciliation. For bain kubra, the wife must marry and divorce another man first before she can return to her former husband, under Islamic law.
