Sijil Talaq: proof of divorce by talaq

Sijil talaq is the document confirming that a divorce happened through a talaq pronouncement permitted by the court, as opposed to khuluk or fasakh. It is commonly used as everyday shorthand for the sijil cerai in a talaq-based divorce case.

This certificate states which talaq was pronounced, whether talak satu, dua, or tiga, since this decides whether the couple can reconcile or need a new marriage contract to be together again.

If the talaq pronouncement was made outside court, a certificate is only issued once it has been confirmed and registered under the divorce pronouncement confirmation procedure.
